Quite charming, as I suppose he has to be. Obviously scary-smart. Sends a lot of follow-up emails to make sure he's got facts and quotes right, which pleased me greatly.

Oh, that is a very good thing. I'm so glad they've put him on that beat! (Okay, let's be honest: I'm mostly glad that there's a beat now to put him on. But I'm also glad that the person filling that role at Macleans is so kickass.)

And it occurs to me that "quite charming, as I suppose he has to be" sounds far more contrived than it ought.

He IS charming, but he's also just basically personable and pleasant.

I mean, ask me again after I've had a chance to compare what I said with what he prints :-), but. I did like him very well, and I was DEEPLY suspicious at first, as googling turned up a lot of National Post and Macleans, which... yeah.
