Five Canadian Things

1)
(A stopsign in PEI altered to say Stop Harper)

The writ has dropped, election October 19.

2) Fire out West. Water back East.

You're almost certainly not as concerned as you should be.

(Two maps showing temperature and precipitation changes across Canada, 1950-2010)

3) Stop carding. Stop carding now.

4) I'm still not switching back to Rogers.

Rogers apologizes for showing porn on CHCH: Gaffe marks 2nd time in 3 years pornography was aired instead of news

5) We like Canadian Music..

No, we use it here too, though ISTM more with a patient than absolutely: i.e., I was carded or They carded all of us, even Jen's grampa more than Carding is a pain in the butt).

Yep, we tend to use it always in past tense - I hate being carded rather than I hate carding.

Thanks!
[Pedantic note: That's the passive voice, not the past tense. In fact, "being carded" is explicitly present, or as present as such an expression can be.

Oh yes.

http://rabett.blogspot.ca/2012/05/natural-variability-is-not-lukewarmers.html (which has a link to the original paper) is a good high level explanation of why.

The Shark-eyed Man is of course paid to not know these things, and not by the people of Canada.

Sharks are admittedly much maligned.

I know some quite excellent and lovely people who happen to have inherited the surname of Harper, too.

I try not to think of the Reverend Schilling from Stross' The Apocalypse Codex, myself.

Someone has been waiting their entire life to use the phrase "saw the sex in question" in a published news article.

What does it say about me that I've already been following the CBC Polltracker for (at least) a week?

It's going to be a very long eleven weeks for my very short fingernails.
