Some Asian markets sell tofu that's packaged into half-blocks already, so you can break the seal on one half and leave the other in the package. It lasts a little longer.
... actually, it took me until I bought good tofu that I realized that tofu can actually be delicious when made at home, and started to eat the stuff in sufficient quantities that I could use up a whole block before it went bad.
