You can be a basically decent moral person who urgently wants to do good in the world and make people's lives better, and at the same time believe things that are horribly wrong and thus do awful things.
With a slight de-intensifier on the negatives ("wrong" rather than "horribly wrong" and "bad/harmful things" rather than "awful"), this describes so many men I know.
