I would like to say: I am not at all worried about avoiding duplication, and suggest that nobody else be either.

If eight people do posts on How To Cook Eggs, they will all be different, they will all be right and useful, and each of them will be somebody's absolute most useful and favourite post of the whole carnival.

Would it be helpful to have a post about how to buy meat from a farmer and eat from your freezer all year long? This is what I do now (lamb, split quarter of beef, and half a hog), and it can be cost-efficient, but it requires a fair bit capital up front. It may not be appropriate for talking about food security, though the mention of "income increase" was what made me think of it.

I was thinking something along the lines of pros and cons, the mechanics of doing it, the costs, how much freezer space is really needed, maybe some stuff on how to cook these exciting new cuts of meat you may not have cooked before, and so on.

ETA: In the U.S.; I'm not sure it works the same elsewhere, though some parts would probably translate ok.

I would like to know more about this. I don't have a chest freezer, but it's In The Plan, so knowing how do buy (and store, and refrain from forgetting what you've got) significant portions of animal from a specific farmer would be AWESOME. :-D

I'm sure it can be done everywhere there are farms, but I'm not sure the terminology or the steps in the process are the same.

I can write a brief note on how we went about it, if you like. We went for "easy" rather than "cheap", so it would probably be just a paragraph or two.

Ok, I have a post. And several more posts. Um, almost 7000 words. If anyone would like to beta before the carnival, let me know! A professional chef acquaintance has already reviewed for accuracy, so I'm more interested in hearing about whether the tone works, the information is accessible, and it's complete enough for you to feel like you could use it.

Would you mind a spin off post on 10-15 years later still eating from the quarter cow my parents bought and have in their deep freeze (and how freezer burn isn't the end of the world)?

No, I think that's what you're supposed to be planning to do when you make that purchase. The household I grew up in, however, was not so good at eating the things tucked away out of the most direct line of sight.
