... About fangirls who would like to like makeup but don't quite know what to do with it.

If I brought my full makeup kit to MJ and/or WisCon, would people like me to do their faces before the dances? I've taken two courses in, and have some experience with, theatre makeup and I can do anything from super-subtle to smoky/pinup/sexpot to full on glitter machine. Subject to panel assignments at WisCon and roomies' needs at MJ, I'm willing to spend 2-3 hours each time on this, which is 8-12 faces.

I can do basic FX work as well, but this must be pre-negotiated as I will need to bring quite specific stuff and I may need to send you shopping.

I am also willing, if asked, to talk about what I am doing while I do it.

If enough people express interest that I do pack the whole kit, I will purchase a packet of disposable mascara wands and also one of disposable eye-makeup applicators, for safety, though I am also happy to guide people in buying their own mascara.

Please feel free to repost, etc.

Please note that I think compulsory makeup and compulsory feminine display are abominations. This offer is for people who would enjoy this, and this comment section is not your space to vent about how much you loathe makeup or girliness. I don't loathe it. I enjoy it. I'm a femme, and I don't feel like being beat up for it.

ETA: somehow I'd missed that [personal profile] sparkymonster and a few other people already do this at WisCon. Am reaching out to them to make sure I'm not stepping on their thing and see if I can join them. Will update.

ETA2: I'm an idiot. You absolutely do not have to identify as a fan*girl* to have makeup! Makeup for all as wants it!

Excellent! Thanks so much for doing this. :)
If you can recommend a good foundation that would be great -- I am a makeup novice. As for effects, a pin-up look would be fun. Nothing glittery- I don't think I could pull that off. ;)

I love it! :)

I like the brightness of the lips (not sure which shade of red would work with my skin tone (were you able to see my picture links?), but I like her magenta-like red. Also, I like how her eyelashes are a big focus. I have pretty decent lash length, but nothing like that, so that would be something I'd like if you could sorcery up some! My eyebrows will obviously not be as shaped as hers (they're bushes), but that's okay. *g*

The blush in the fourth pic down (brown dress) might be too much for me. I think I would probably like it more blended/subtle.

I guess I just like the shiny of it all, and the brightness. (I do not know the terms!) I hope this made enough sense to help you! ;)

Also, is there anything I should supply besides foundation? Tools of any sort? I am not a person who minds sharing, but let me know what else -- if anything -- I need to bring. I can't thank you enough for this. I don't think my dress will really work without a nice face to go with it. ;)

I will truly be just as happy with a good mascara job. :)

RED red sounds nice!

I checked the panel schedule, and there is a panel that I'd like to go to at three o'clock. Do you have slots that would allow me to attend that?

Thanks! :)

I have NO IDEA what to do with my hair. I usually just put on a headband and go. That will not work, I think... Maybe a high ponytail?? I'm open to suggestions. :P

Well, if you do happen to go to that store, might you pick up a black one for me if it isn't too terribly pricey? (Jamboreeing is expensive! *g*)

Eh, you know more about colors than I do! ;)

And thank you!! I am starting to get excited about this now! :)

[personal profile] commodorified mentions BB cream. A lot of African-American girls in the lolita fashion community use BB creams as a foundation because they are self-adjusting. They don't match skin as they go on, but they "oxidise" and blend in. BB cream also feels nicer than foundation; it's usually formulated with a lot of soothing ingredients. I am leery of non-Asian BB creams because it often seems like their ingredients lists read more like tinted moisturisers than BB creams, but the Body Shop one [personal profile] commodorified recommended is probably quite good because she's good at this and their stuff is generally good.

BB creams, particularly Asian brands, do often contain "whiteners"--so if you're concerned about that, make sure the store staff knows that you do not want a BB cream with any "whitening" ingredients. In my experience they don't actually bleach your skin, which is why I put it in quotes--they eliminate blotchiness and unevenness in your skin tone, and I personally like them, but I'm white with skin that can't sometimes make up its mind whether it wants to tan or freckle and occasionally manages not quite to do either. They really aren't formulated for use on darker skin.
