My keyboard gets stuck on French sometimes and there is nothing at all that I can do to make it go back except wait until it feels like it.

Is shoes in the house an American thing?

Have you tried hitting left-shift/left-ctrl simultaneously? That's how it flips for me.

OH I bet that's what mine does when it suddenly decides to be weird! I am never sure if it's the French-Canadien keyboard or the fact I've got mine set to "International" (with the umlaut shortkeys and such) and sometimes it wants to not do that when it's supposed to.

Left-CTRL/left-SHIFT, I'll keep an eye out for that!

AHA! I've always thought it hit on that combo randomly, but that must be it. With my typing speed I don't even know I've done it until I'm getting those damn És!

So I was just getting annoyed at my keyboard for being in French again, and then I remembered that once upon a time someone on dreamwidth told me how to fix that. So I dug up this comment and OMG IT WORKS. Best. Day. Ever. Thank you!
